Third Coast Percussion’s 2012-13 Chicago Concert Season continues with an evening of music for instruments made of metal, from the meditative resonance of Thai gongs to the driving clang of pots and pans. This concert will feature the American premiere of Philippe Manoury’s other-worldly Métal for homemade instruments called “Sixxen,” as well as John Cage’s raucous First Construction (in Metal), David Lang’s hammering The Anvil Chorus¸ and James Tenney’s immersive Koan: Having Never Written a Note for Percussion.
Hailed by The Guardian for “a special fluency and zest that sets them apart,” Chicago-based quartet Third Coast Percussion explores and expands the extraordinary sonic possibilities of the percussion repertoire, delivering vibrant performances for audiences of all kinds. Since its formation in 2005, Third Coast Percussion has gained national attention with concerts and recordings that meld the energy of rock music with the precision and nuance of classical chamber works.
